As an NYC PR agency specializing in the hospitality sector, we know that summers in New York City are different than summers in many other places across the U.S. It can sometimes be more of a challenge to find outdoor space to meet up for a drink or a bite to eat. It’s not as easy as just walking outside in the concrete jungle to find a little piece of open-air oasis. So where do New Yorker’s go? Rooftops!

Hotels, restaurants and other high-rise buildings have capitalized on their roofs to create a multitude of environments and ambiances for their guests to enjoy. Some of the classics, like Le Bain at The Standard or the Gansevoort rooftops are often difficult to get in to because of their popularity and demand. But there are actually quite a few of rooftops to explore in New York that can cater to a variety of tastes.

Luckily for us, The Thrillist sent out two of their staffers to research and compile a list of some of the best rooftops (80 in total) to check out this summer. Even better, they organized it in to neighborhoods so you can find out what’s in your hood as well as others. Our travel PR agency is always keeping up with the latest and greatest with the NYC hotel industry so here are some of my favorite spots that I’ve been to on the list.

Aretsky’s Patroon

Aretsky's Patroon Rooftop in Midtown East

The rooftop at Aretsky’s Patroon in Midtown East is a great under the radar NYC spot for post work cocktails or a night cap.

160 E 46th Street

This newly opened rooftop took me by surprise. First off, the unassuming area of Midtown East usually isn’t the first place I think to go out in but a friend invited me to this spot after work recently. No lines and a friendly staff sent me right up to the roof, which was a stunning and well done outdoor space. Greenery, a view, and a fantastic variety of cocktails, bourbons, and beers made for a delightful happy hour.

The Met Rooftop

1000 Fifth Avenue

Another stunning rooftop that might not be the first to come to mind when looking for a hot spot is the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden. A sophisticated and diverse range of ages creates a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere at The Met rooftop. You can’t beat the views and they also have contemporary art installations to enjoy while you are sipping your cocktail atop of this Fifth Avenue museum.

So don’t waste anytime and check out the myriad of sky-high venues for your next social endeavor!
