Many from Europe, particularly France and Sweden, have discovered a truly marvelous new hotel in New York City. It’s in booming Williamsburg in Brooklyn – The Wythe Hotel.
It is quintessentially European in feeling, especially French. From the wallpaper to the appointments, you feel like you could be at a boutique hotel in Paris. So I found it to be “France meets BK!”
On a recent stay with my youngest daughter, we explored this fascinating and funky haven for artists of all kinds. In the lobby and the rest of the hotel they had lots of French speaking guests. So it was truly international in feeling – almost more than a hotel on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan!
The hotel was planned about five or six years ago before the neighborhood really took off. But it was definitely visioning on the part of the developers.

A block from the water, there is a lovely park in which to stroll or sit and relax. On my second night I hosted both my daughters at the Wythe Rooftop for drinks, which featured a panoramic view of lower Manhattan. I have to say that that the Freedom Tower truly took my breath away.
Rooftop Lounges All the Rage in NYC
While hotel rooftops in Manhattan like The Nomad and The Standard have been de rigueur for some years, hanging out on The Ides Rooftop at the Wythe was different. With 30 years experience working with NYC based PR agencies, this hotel stands apart from the others. We sipped champagne cocktails and I gazed over the sunset as my daughters debated the trials and tribulations of Millennials.
“Ladies” I said, “I’m way past your generation but this is a timeless sight to behold. So we all took a look, a deep breath and relaxed. Then it was on to dinner at the Reynard Restaurant. It was sublime.
